The Horse Gallery
The Horse Gallery is a sister company to Horsing Around which started trading in 1994.
Originally from Worcestershire we have a passion for porcelain and fine bone china manufacturing which sadly has become a dying art in that area after the closure of Royal Worcester. Although a complex procedure we continue producing in fine bone china which helps keep alive a tradition of this skilled craft that goes back over 250 years in the United Kingdom.
Fine bone china production is a very time consuming procedure which has barely changed over last 250 years. The sculpture is cut up into numerous parts for example: legs, body, head, ears, tail etc. and each of these are then moulded using plaster of paris. Just something as simple as a leg would have four parts to make one leg mould!
Once you have cast all the body parts you then have to put the sculpture back together before it is cleaned and propped ready to go into the kiln. Once the sculpture has been fired then all the seams are cleaned before the sculpture can be glazed and then fired in the kiln again. Once a china passes quality control the painter can start to work their magic by building up the colour over 3-5 layers with each layer having to be fired in the kiln.
All the people involved in our china production are skilled craftsmen who have worked for such prestigious companies as Royal Worcester, Albany Fine China, Boehm, Bronte Porcelain and Connoisseur of Malvern.
We produced our first fine bone china horse sculpture in 2001 and have produced many horse breeds, mostly as limited editions, in fine bone china. We have worked with numerous artists over the years while producing their sculptures for collectors to buy.
We hope you enjoy browsing our gallery which contains details and images of the sculpures we have produced...
